Why
this presentation of different rods and other gear?
4 very different rods |
Well,
to cut to the chase, I don't want someone new to fly fishing doing
the mistake I did in choosing my first fly fishing equipment. A rod
classed to AFTM #8-9 is not well suited for a young boy learning fly
fishing even if he is very enthusiastic as I was. The presentation
shows that there is an abundance of different rods, reels and lines
to choose from nowadays.
So
what should someone wanting to start fly fishing choose?
My
advice would be to, if ever possible, try out different fly fishing
gears. If you have friends that are fly fishers I think they will be
more than willing to let you borrow their gear to try it out. There
are also some fly fishing shops that let the customers try out the
equipment they are interested in. Take advantage of that! Why? That
will make it easier for you to choose an equipment that will suit
YOU, in terms of WHAT you will fish for and WHERE. If you choose your
gear carefully the chance that fly fishing will bring you many joyful
days by the water and it might result in a lifelong way of living.
Have fun fly fishing,
M.O.
